Wishing for that spark of a great Idea?

For most of us, ideas have to be squeezed out of us every day. To stand up to this challenge, you need to arm yourself with some good tools.

Ever felt that you have run out of ideas? Wish you could just create ideas from thin air in a stroke of brilliance? While this isn’t possible there are techniques to make the ideation of a project more efficient and effective. Want to know more? A List Apart has a great article by Mark Boulton about this very subject called Saving The Spark.

Boulton gives a process for anyone who would like to improve their own way of working, so we can create better ideas for projects.

The flash of inspiration is important, and so is the final product, but pay attention to the bit in between.

inspiration Love Letters

A screengrab from the Love Letters Project

This unique project involves 300 love letters posted to strangers. Asia describes her goals of the project indepth on the website, below is just a snippet of this.

I wanted to be able to pull out and vocalize the small thread connecting me to them, them to me, the something in them that I found beautiful or real and the something between us that existed beneath everything, acknowledged or unacknowledged, forgotten gestures and moments, strange and rare affinities. In the same way that part of art.

When I discovered this project the goals and thought it provoked in me meant I couldn’t get enough. I spent three hours reading through the letters that had been written and couldn’t get enough. The project also inpsired me to attempt to further develop my ability to tell people what I think and believe in, afterall as Asia says

There is so much we don’t talk about, so much we have trouble believing in.

We Feel Fine

We feel fine is a project by Jonathon Harris and Sep Kamvar in 2006, that searches the internet for utterings of “I feel” and “I am feeling” in blogs around the world.

“At its core, We Feel Fine is an artwork authored by everyone. It will grow and change as we grow and change, reflecting what’s on our blogs, what’s in our hearts, what’s in our minds. We hope it makes the world seem a little smaller, and we hope it helps people see beauty in the everyday ups and downs of life.”  Jonathan Harris & Sep Kamvar May 2006.

The way that this project connects people and accentuates someting that is often said without thinking, instigates thought into something that many often overlook.
